The intended audience for this product is the general populous who
eat snacks. The values of the target
audience would be people who are healthy conscious in regards to their
snacking. The company appeals to the
value or opinion of healthy snacking through the demonstration of the key elements
that are inherent within peanuts. Niacin
for skin health, magnesium for bone health, 7 grams of protein and 6 essential
vitamins are listed as the science of the peanut. The audience in the video is “mesmerized”, while
attending a seminar for peanuts. The company’s
commercial is very direct in appealing to those values in the commercial. The demonstration of the science of the
peanut conveys the facts about peanuts and the video shots into the audience
show a few people with tears welling in their eyes.
The social and cultural connotations would indicate that people
who eat Planters nuts are healthier and more successful. The presentation is done in an amphitheater
setting; the people in the audience are wearing average every-day clothing with
conference style neck lanyards. There
are multiple races, gender with the age ranging from early adulthood to senior
citizens, the largest cross section of people who would purchase snacks. Blue it the main color for the entire video.
It gives the feel of strength, success and power. Mr. Peanut is focusing on the nutrition and
how it will enhance the lives of those who eat peanuts. He engages the audience
through questions that seem very simplistic and then he shows a video of the
change within the body when a peanut is ingested. The color used in this display is red
indicating the body’s need for power.
When the body converts the peanut is infuses the body with gold
(essential vitamins and protein). The
person changes into the American flag with a smile, the bald eagle soaring in
the corner; all indicating the power of Americans. All the sudden the man’s face gets serious
and the world is dropped into his hand.
He can impose his will into the world and the world blows up. Part of
the success is indicated by money and the colors used are white and very dark
green. The video switches back to the
blue and red for relationships and love.
It wraps up back to the gold/yellow words that are "bolded" and large to
remind you that the peanut is the snack for success and to harness the power of
the peanut. The gold that is used for
the man being infused with power is the similar color used in the bold wording
to make the focus on: eat the peanuts and be powerful.
The purpose of this commercial is to engage your thought process
to accept the fact that peanuts are a healthy snack that will infuse you with
strength and power. When you are looking
at snacks the goal would be for your mind to remember that Mr. Peanut peanuts
are the best choice for your hunger.
I believe that the commercial is successful in achieving its
goal. When it comes time to select a
snack the minute I see the Planter’s peanut package, I remember many of their advertisements.
It has influenced me several times to purchase peanuts over chips.
All the components seem
to work together. The presentation within the video has computer monitors and
views the human’s interaction with ingesting peanuts. The hunger is alleviated and they become
strong. The scene shows the magnesium,
manganese, vitamin E, phosphorous, niacin and dietary fiber as the 6 essential
vitamins. The reiterating that it is science, made of facts, being shown a few
times helps validate their statements.
Symbol of the peanut being a snacking power success invites you to
harness the power of the peanut.I am not so sure about
the power to impose his will upon the world, then the world blowing up as
following the same line of thinking. I
believe that this has an underlying motive.
Perhaps it is to appeal to the management of business. Engaging management to have peanuts for the
snack breaks, so their company can impose their will to society. This is the only part that was different in
the entire video commercial clip. It
still held in line that peanuts will give you power to achieve more.
